Barn Converstion, North Cotswolds

Tyack Architects was approached by a repeat client to work on this 'one-off' stone barn conversion and extension project, which also included a subservient garage with extensive green roof and wild meadow landscaping. The site is situated on an elevated, remote open countryside in the AONB, surrounded by agricultural fields. The proposals were thus heavily influenced by existing setting and views both inside and outside the site, which enhanced the space's overall aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability while minimising potential impacts on the surrounding landscape. The materials and traditional detailing were also chosen to reflect this background and the barn building's previous agricultural use, while the extensions used a more contrasting and contemporary material palette. The project also used computer virtual modelling to anticipate potential issues, which helped with both the design and construction processes.
