Established in 1974, Tyack Architects is a close-knit architectural practice in the Cotswolds, caring for its work family as much as it cares for each client and each project.
We pride ourselves on the level of love and attention we give to every project.
We are proud of our legacy of beautifully crafted buildings and landscapes, enhancing the experience of those in and around them.
Demonstrated in the number of return clients and awards we receive.
Working in small Director-led teams, our staff offer a diverse range of skills and knowledge, to provide a tailored response to suit each individual brief within a lively and nurturing working environment.
There is no standard way of delivering a building project. We work closely with clients as each commission progresses, providing them with guidance and recommendations at important decision points to find the best solutions.
In 2022 the majority shareholding of Tyack Architects Limited transferred to an Employee Owned Trust. This means that the practice’s employees are now the majority owners of the company, and are represented on the Trust’s board by elected Employees, alongside the founding director and an independent director and chair of the board.
Becoming employee-owned reflects the practice’s reputation for nurturing young talent, providing a family-style studio environment within which a generation of architects have been able to grow and flourish - many of whom now form the management team of the practice and have been integral to its continued growth. Senior staff, including Edward Tyack, remain at the core of the practice, with decades of experience and knowledge.

Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence: Tyack Architects’ Journey
Tyack Architects is thrilled to celebrate a remarkable milestone—50 years of continuous practice from our Cotswold base in Moreton-in-Marsh. Over the decades, we’ve grown to become one of the leading architectural firms in the region.
Edward Tyack, our founder, began his journey as an architectural assistant during his college years. Reflecting on our history, Edward shares, “We’ve operated from several locations within the town but are now happily settled in one of its landmark buildings, The Mann Institute. Back in the 1970s, our office environment was vastly different—no computers for communication or drawing work, just cable telephones, paper prints, and the Royal Mail! What remains unchanged is our thoughtful and sensitive approach to the historic environment and the attention to detail in our projects.”
Our early projects were primarily private residential, and this sector continues to be a significant part of our portfolio. Whether it’s replacement or new dwellings, restorations, conversions, or larger extensions, we’ve consistently delivered excellence. Over time, our scope expanded to include multiple housing schemes, hotels, retirement housing, and Continuous Care Retirement Communities (Care Villages), leading to commissions across the country.

When asked about his favourite project, Edward finds it hard to choose just one. “I do enjoy driving past Allcourt in Lechlade, where we created a strong sense of place and a delightful environment for elderly residents. It was even used by the local authority as an exemplar design for their planning committee members. The terraced cottages and houses blend seamlessly into the historic streetscape. Another proud moment was the opening of our housing scheme in Truro for the Duchy of Cornwall by the then Prince Charles. I’m immensely grateful to all our team members, past and present, who have contributed to building the excellent reputation we enjoy today.”
As we navigate the increasing planning requirements and technical regulations, our collaborative approach within an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) structure ensures we continue to thrive and innovate.
