The Manor Farm Barns development has re-invented an unattractive courtyard cluster of farm buildings, turning them into a contemporary new dwelling.
A consistent approach to the detail design and choice of finishing materials unifies the series of contrasting internal spaces. The historic barn interiors leave natural stone walls exposed and express the pegs and jointing of traditional oak-frame roof construction; similarly, I-beams, bespoke metal cleats and tie-rod connectors are expressed in the structure of the modern roofs - the industrial character echoed in the use of a polished concrete floor finish.
A sensitive approach to the conversion has succeeded in preserving the character of the Listed buildings, enhancing their setting in the process, and creating an attractive and distinctive family home.
